Race Rules
The items on the mandatory list are for your safety and must be carried during the event. There is also a recommended list of equipment, which is designed to make your race more enjoyable (and reduce the chance of us having to rescue you!)
Mandatory – All stages
- Mobile phone (in waterproof cover/bag)
- Money for phone
- Compass
- Whistle (one per person)
- First Aid Kit (crepe bandage, wound dressing, triangular bandage, 2 safety pins, selection of adhesive dressings)
- Foil blanket
- Waterproof jacket
- Drink
Mandatory – Mountain Bike
- Cycle helmet (to be worn, not carried!)
- Pump
- Repair kit or spare inner tube
- Bike tools
Mandatory – Winter Events Only
- Head torch and spare batteries (if final stage is running)
- Bike lights and spare batteries (if final stage is mountain bike)
Recommended – All Stages
- Map (even the experienced racers forget these!)
- Food
- Permanent pen
Rules
- You may compete as a solo, pair or team of three. Teams should be of mixed sex. (Single sex teams can compete but will not be eligible for prizes).
- The mandatory kit must be carried.
- Members of the same pair or team must stay within 25 metres of each other.
- Do not take or carry your mountain bike on to footpaths.
- Only use public rights of way or permissive tracks as indicated on the map
- Respect other users of the countryside.
- Always close gates behind you.
- Contact the race base in the event of an emergency, (after calling the emergency services) the contact number is printed on the description cards.
- If you retire at any time you must report to the race base.
- At least one run and one bike CP must be visited during the event.
- GPS systems are not permitted.
Penalties
If you exceed the stage time limit you will incur penalties at the following rate:
- 2 points per minute for the first 10 minutes
- 5 points per minute thereafter
e.g. If you are 13 minutes late you will receive 35 point penalty (10 mins x 2 + 3 mins x 5)
- 46 + minutes late, loose ALL points.
- Failure to adhere to race rules – 100 points
